STECKLY HAS EXCITING DAY AT MONTREAL’S CIRCUIT GILLES VILLENEUVE
Steckly finishes the day on his roof

MONTREAL, QUEBEC, Sunday August 30, 2009: Scott Steckly driving the No. 22 Canadian Tire Dodge Avenger had an exciting finish to his day , just not the one he wanted. With the front five cars battling hard for position on the final lap of the 100 km race, Steckly got tagged by another car and when the dust settled the No. 22 dodge Avenger was on its roof. Steckly was unhurt and would be officially credited with finishing 19th.

The Canadian Tire/Tow Truck in a Box Dodge Avenger driver practiced and qualified well with them posting the fourth quickest time during time trials. Thirty-four NASCAR Canadian Tire Series cars made the trip to race at the famous Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

Steckly dropped back a few positions during the first half of the race but with the laps winding down he started to move closer to the front. The caution flag few with just a handful of laps to go and when the green again waved it was for a green, white, checkered finish. NASCAR rules that one attempt will be made to complete the race but should the caution come out during that attempt the race will be considered complete. On the final lap a car got spun around which had Steckly and others dodging the mess. Unfortunately Steckly got collected by another car. When asked after the race how he was he commented, “I am fine not hurt at all. The rules that NASCAR implement are for a reason and today I am thankful for that. I want to again thank my crew and all my sponsors. Canadian Tire had a large presence here today and I would have liked nothing better that to get on the podium for them.”

J. R. Fitzpatrick took the win with Andrew Ranger finishing second. Kerry Micks, D. J. Kennington and Mark Dilley made up the remainder of the top five.

The Napa 100 will be aired on TSN on Saturday Sept. 12th at 11 a.m. EST.

Steckly still remains in fourth in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series point standings heading to event eleven in the thirteen race schedule at Barrie Speedway on Saturday Sept. 12th. For more information on this event visit www.barriespeedway.com
