Bad Luck Hits Steckly Again

The 22 Racing team headed out west, with their first stop in Calgary at the Race City Motorsports Park. The race weekend started out on Friday July 22, with qualifying and two full-points qualifying heats taking place. Scott Steckly drove his Erb Group Pontiac Grand Prix to the 21 st fastest time in qualifying, after the field was split into two it meant that Scott would start in the 11 th position for the qualifying heat. This would determine where the Erb Group car would start for the 300 lap race which was on Saturday July 23.

During the 100 lap qualifier, Steckly started the race off strong passing two cars in the first 10 laps, before settling into ninth place for the next several laps. On lap 55 Steckly made passes on #37 Tara McLeod and #11 Ron Van Es, to move into 7 th place. This is where he went on to finish the race in. The remaining 45 laps Steckly spent trailing Brad Graham and J.R. Fitzpatrick. The 7 th place finish meant that Scott would start the 300 lap feature race in 13 th. However, Steckly’s appearance in the feature race would be short lived, as 5 laps into the race the car’s driveshaft broke and caused an end to the race team’s day. Scott was very disappointed in the results he put up in Calgary saying “we drive all the way out here just to race 5 laps. Breaking equipment seems to be the story of our season”.

The team does have the car fixed and ready to go this weekend for the last western race of the season at Sun Valley Speedway in Vernon, BC. The format for the Vernon race will be the same as Calgary with 2 full points’ heat races on Friday and the feature race going on Saturday night.

Following the race in British Columbia, the CASCAR Super Series teams return to Mosport Speedway for a race on August 6 th.

In the drive for the 2005 CASCAR Super Series Championship, of which Scott presently sits in 12 th place, the 22 Race team is proudly sponsored by: The Erb Group of Companies, International Truck and Engine Dealers: ALTRUCK, Lewis and Metro; Thermo King of Eastern Canada, CPL Systems, AW Millwrights, Chris Root Precision Machine, D.H.
